DEPARTMENT OF PRACTICAL THEOLOGY

Head of Department: To be announced.

The following two Graduate programmes are offered in this department.

M.Phil (Practical Theology)

A two year course designed particularly for those who have honours degree in Theology and wish to do more advanced work in Practical Theology. It is a valuable preparation for the teaching of the subject at an advanced level or as a solid foundation for doctoral level studies. Teaching takes the form of individual supervision and of attendance at lectures and classes. The degree is awarded on an examination and thesis. M.Phil. candidates will be required to offer at least eight papers and in addition present a thesis of not more than 50,000 words. The research papers may form the basis of the student’s dissertation.

M.A. (Practical Theology)

The course provides an opportunity for advancement in Practical Theology within the limits of what can be done in twelve months. M.A. in Practical Theology candidates will be required to offer eight papers and in addition present a thesis of 20,000 words.

This M.A. is related to the M.Phil. in Practical Theology (see above) and covers part of the ground covered by the M.Phil. Students who were initially registered for the M.A. may, with the approval of the Board of Graduate Studies, subsequently transfer to the M.Phil.
