THE CUC MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION PROGRAMME
Currently, the Master of Business Administration Programme has a duration of eighteen calendar months. It is designed to provide an intensive quality post-graduate education in business and management within a supportive and collaborative environment. The programme consists of five stages encompassing core themes, specialization areas and a dissertation / project. An intensive foreign language training programme as well as a Personal and Professional Development Programme also form key components of the programme. The stages are as follows:
- Core Stages 1 and 2 –Core Themes
The core modules are designed to provide students with a critical awareness and understanding of the broad curriculum of management and business. Students are engaged in areas of knowledge that underpin management and the analysis of business activities. A thematic approach is used and includes modules such as: (i) Managing People in Organisations (ii) Accounting & Finance for Managers (iii) Managing Information, (vi) Managing in Competitive Environments (v) Strategic Management, (vi) Research Methods and Statistics, (vii) Change Management and (viii) Regional Integration.
Four areas of specialization are available, namely, Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, and General Management. Each specialisation segment consists of six subjects. It allows students to deepen their knowledge and skills in areas of interest and relevance to their career aspirations. Each specialisation segment offers the opportunity for students to study deeper in six subjects of their choice. Smaller classes, interactive participation, and varied modes of teaching and learning make this stage a challenging journey of discovery. Students are encouraged to think carefully about their interests and future careers before registering their elective choices. The portfolio of electives will be kept under close review by paying constant attention to current management thinking, business environment, academic debate, student needs, staff research interests, and academic expertise available within the School. A core module will also be offered at each concentration stage of the programme.
Students will be required to undertake a 20,000-word dissertation on a topic of their choice in their area of concentration. The topic may be a project or case study that may analyse a practical, relevant management issue in some depth, or demonstrate a critical understanding of a relevant theory and its applications. This stage offers the opportunity to utilise the knowledge and skills gained throughout the programme.
- Foreign Language Component
Students on the MBA programme will take a compulsory foreign language component for which a certificate is awarded. The two languages available are French and Chinese.
Students will also have training in a Personal and Professional Development (PPD) that includes Career Management.
