The University's Library
The Central University College is the first indigenous Charismatic tertiary institution founded by a church established by an indigene. It started initially as a theology school training pastors for the International Central Gospel Church of Dr Mensa Anamua Otabil. After almost a decade of its existence, the theology programme was raised to tertiary level and a business school also at the same level was added in 1998. It was at that stage that the library was expanded to support the new programme. A library is of central importance to any tertiary institution.
It is a combination of people, collections, buildings and technology with a mission to transform information into knowledge. Knowledge is said to connote power and the mission of a library is to package this knowledge in a way that can be easily accessible to support teaching, research, give information and to entertain. Central University has three libraries stocking mostly books on theology, business, English and French languages, Information Technology and in the Social Sciences. A fourth library is in the offing.
A higher percentage of the library’s collection is funded from the university’s budget. However, we receive supplies from friends both in Ghana and abroad including “Speak the Word” Church, Sabre Foundation, Holy Cross College – all of USA, Kingsway Church of Britain, World Vision Ghana, Ghana Book Trust, ADRA Ghana, local churches, organizations and other libraries. Our stock, though not very large is very effective and acceptable in our local standards.
The Central University runs both the Semester and Trimester systems in its three schools of Morning, Evening and Weekend and for the library to support this, it opens from 9.00am to 9.00pm throughout the year with the extension of the closing hours to 11.00pm during examination periods.
