B.A. ENGLISH
The Department of English aspires to teach and train its students in English so as to satisfy the needs of society.
Objectives
The Department will ensure that students in all Departments and Faculties of Central University College are able to communicate effectively in writing and to develop oral skills in English.

PROGRAMME 2:
B.A. ENVIRONMENTAL AND DEVELOPMENT STUDIES DEPERTMENT
The Department of Environment and Development Studies introduces an evolving area of academic discipline which involves a combination of such subjects as geography, economics, law and management studies among others. As an interdisciplinary area of study, therefore, the course is based on the wide definition of the “environment” as the totality of the physical and human surroundings, the different methods and levels of human interaction with the physical elements and the respective outcomes. It also deals with the various management practices that been designed to address the results of the environment-development interactions.
Philosophy And Objective
Vision: “Integrate the environment into the development process in Ghana”
Goal: To train and equip middle level professionals with the requisite knowledge and skills required in addressing environmental challenges in development practice
Objectives: To provide students with a unique opportunity to study diverse yet distinctive environment-related subjects in a friendly and supportive academic setting. To accomplish these objectives, the course will teach both theory and practice with the aim of producing graduates with skills relevant to the development agenda in Ghana. It is also the objective of the course to produce graduates who will be able to understand measure and monitor the earth’s environmental systems with emphasis on the Ghanaian situation and discover how human interactions have changed these systems over time through the process of development.

Competence in Environment and Development Studies will open doors for graduates in Ghana and beyond. Graduates with the above training are therefore expected to access job opportunities in the following areas among others:

B.Sc ECONOMICS
The philosophy of the program is to mount an efficient and effective economic course structure at CUC that is capable of producing well- grounded scholars in quantitative and theoretical analysis of economic issues, will be able to rise up to the challenges of the modern society in business and industry.
Aim Of The Economics Department
The Department aims to be a department of excellence that will produce high quality graduates and undertakes active research in Economics and related disciples to meet the demands of the individual and the society. Besides, the department expects to impact positively on the strategic development of the institution and the society at large.
Objectives
The main objectives of the Economics Program are to produce:
- High quality graduates in economics of international standard.
- Scholars with the ability and requisite skills to enter business and industry successfully.
- Graduates with solid research background in Economics, with the potential of advancing to higher innovative levels.
- Scholars who understand and appreciate the economics interdependences of nations in this modern world.
- Graduates who are in a position to interpret and analyze effectively the economic issue and problems confronting Ghana, and the way forward.
Career Prospects
The job prospects of an economist can be realized in the private and public sectors.
- These include the Financial sector, Industrial sector, Agricultural sector, Government sectors. (MDAs).
- Specifically, the Economist can work in Government, Industry, Research Organisations, Marketing or Consulting Film, Financial Institution, Investment and Insurance Companies, Media and Publishing Companies, Universities, Trade Union, International Organizations such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund or European Union, African Union, Ecowas etc.
- The Economist can serve in these institutions as a Financial Analyst, Market Analyst, Public Policy Consultant, Lecturer, Researcher, Manager (Purchasing, Sales, Marketing, and Human Resource) and a Self Employed Independent Consultant.
PROGRAMME 4:
B.A. FRENCH, WITH OPTION IN BUSINESS FRENCH OR TRANSLATION
“The number of languages you speak makes you that many a man/woman.” This old adage is true, and becomes more relevant in our Ghanaian context. Apart from Busumuru Kofi Annan, all International positions are taken by Francophone countries for the simple reason that English is compulsory to the tertiary level. In our global village, Ghana needs another language to make professionals marketable in the international arena. This is why you need to come to Central University to read French.
Advantages:
- Ghana is surrounded by Francophone countries and therefore professionals with French background will be hot commodities in the sub region. The Government is highly solicited to mediate in the conflicts in the sub region. In case of reconstruction, Ghanaian professional will be called upon.
- French is establishing a lot of enterprises in Ghana, and those with competence in the language will have an edge over all others. Francophone countries outnumber Anglophones ones in Africa hence the need for French.
