ADMISSIONS FOR 2010-2011 ACADEMIC YEAR

Central University College invites applications for the 2010-2011 academic year to offer the following programmes in the departments listed below.

1. SCHOOL OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION (SBMA)

Programmes:
Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Management Studies;
Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Agribusiness Management;
Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Banking and Finance;
Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Business Administration with options in Marketing, Human Resource Management and Accounting

Entry Reguirements:

Senior Secondary School Certificate: An applicant must pass in core English, core Mathematics, Core Science and three elective subjects, with an aggregate score of 24 or better in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) or West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

- General Certificate of Education: An applicant must have at least credit-level passes in 5 subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) at the GCE Ordinary Level and at least 2 passes at the GCE Advanced Level. One of the advanced level passes must be grade '0' or better. A pass in General Paper must also be obtained.

- Professional qualifications: Admission to level 100, 200 and 300 are possible with combinations of some of the following qualifications. Admission offers are based on the level of attainment in the qualification concerned and departmental requirements. Offers are not negotiable and are subject to availability of space: RSA stage 2 and 3, LCCI intermediate Certificate Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) with at least 3 Credits and 2 passes awarded by the Technical Examination Unit of GES. Private Secretary, Bilingual Secretaryship Diploma from a recognised University. Professional certificate (e.g. ICA Ghana, ACCA intermediate level etc) Higher National Diploma.

NB: The level to which applicants are admitted depends on the level of attainment in the above professional qualifications.

- Mature Student's Entry Requirement (MSER): Applicants without formal academic qualifications may be considered for admission if they are above 25 years old and have demonstrable relevant professional experience. Applicants will also be required to pass an entrance examination/interview.

2. FACULTY OF ARTS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

Programmes:
Bachelor of Science in Economics
Bachelor of Arts in French
Bachelor of Arts in English
Bachelor of Science in Environment and Development Studies

Entry Reguirements:

3. SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY AND MISSIONS

Programmes:
Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theology;
Bachelor of Arts in Family Counselling;
Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education;
Bachelor of Arts in Church Administration;
Master of Arts (M.A.) Religious Studies;
Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) Religious Studies.

Entry Requirements:

- Senior Secondary School Certificate: An applicant must pass in core English, core Mathematics, Core Science and three elective subjects, with an aggregate score of 24 or better in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) or West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

In addition, an accredited Diploma in Theology or Religious Studies from a recognized institution with at least a grade 'B' average. Applicants for the Masters programmes must have a first degree in a relevant field with not lower than 2nd class lower division.

4. SCHOOL OF APPLIED SCIENCES

Programmes:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Bachelor of Architecture
Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistantship
Bachelor of Pharmacy

Entry Requirements for Bachelor of Science in Nursing:
Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) with an aggregate score of twenty-four (24) or better in six (6) subjects comprising: A - D in all three (3) core subjects i.e English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and at least passes i.e (A - E) in three (3) elective subjects in the options of Science, General Arts, Agricultural Science and Home Economics.

West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) with an aggregate score of twenty-four (24) or better in six (6) subjects comprising: A1 - C6 in all three (3) core subjects i.e English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and at least passes i.e (A1 - E8) in three (3) elective subjects in the options of Science, General Arts, Agricultural Science and Home Economics.

Foreign Students Requirements: foreign students must have their result slips translated into English. In addition, applicants must be able to speak and write English.
Other Entry Qualifications for Admissions: Candidates with the Diploma in Registered Nursing (RN) from recognised institutions may apply. Such candidates may transfer credits from their previous course of studies, with appropriate recommendations and references.

Staff with State Registered Nurses' (SRN) qualification from recognised health institutions and with a minimum of 3 years of practice. All applicants will be interviewed.

Entry Requirements for Bachelor of Architecture:
Admission into the programme is open to SSSCE/ WASSCE or Polytechnic graduates with any background; Science, Vocational, Visual Arts, Technical and General Arts. Applicants must have any one fo the following qualifications:

- Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE): 6 passes with aggregate 24 or better and including 3 core subjects. English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus any three (3) elective subjects.

- West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE): 6 passes with aggregate 24 (SSSCE equivalent) or better and including 3 core subjects. English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus any three (3) elective subjects. .

- Polythecnic students: Passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science in addition to three (3) elective subjects in their respective trades or technical subjects.

- GCE Entrants: Credits in five (5) subjects at O level including English Language and Mathematics, and passes in three subjects at A level.

Applicants are to note that should the total number of qualified candidates exceed the Department's allotted vacancies, a selection interview will be conducted for short listed candidates.

Entry Requirements for Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistantship:
Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE): 6 passes with aggregate 24 or better and including 3 core subjects: English Language. Mathematics and Integrated Science; and 3 Elective subjects including Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE): 6 passes with aggregate 24 (SSSCE equivalent) or better and including 3 core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and 3 Elective subjects including Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics. Nurses will receive certain course exemptions and complete the degree in three years.

Medical Assistants and Bachelor degree holders in the natural sciences, particularly the biological sciences including Human Biology, can complete the course in two years.

Mature applicants: Applicants must be at least 25 years and must have '0' or 'A' Level qualifications with background in health disciplines such as Physiotherapy and Dental Assistants and Laboratory Technicians; and must pass an examination conducted by the University.
All applicants would be interviewed.

Entry Requirements for Bachelor of Pharmacy:
Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE): 6 passes with aggregate 24 or better and including 3 Core subjects (i.e. English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; plus 3 Elective subjects - Chemistry, Biology and either Physics or Mathematics.

West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE): 6 passes with aggregate 24 (SSSCE equivalent) or better and including 3 core subjects (Le. English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science); plus 3 Elective subjects - Chemistry, Biology and either Physics or Mathematics. GCE entrants: Credits in 5 SUbjects at '0' Level including English Language and Mathematics and 3 'A' Level passes in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Mathematics.

Mature applicants: Applicants must be at least 25 years with Science background - Chemistry, Biology and either Physics or elective Mathematics - and must pass an examination conducted by the University.

Holders of Bachelor of Science related degrees. (e.q. Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Human Biology) or HND (Dispensing Technology/Laboratory Technology.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

An applicant must submit the following: A completed application for admission and a non- refundable application fee.

An official results slip or transcript from the student's last school must be submitted at the time of application directly to the Academic Office

If the student is currently enrolled in another institution, a trangcnpt from the previous institution should be sent directly to the Admissions Officer. It is the responsibility
of the student to arrange for transcript(s) and/or transfer form to be mailed and to ensure that they arrive promptly. Hand delivered transcript(s) are not acceptable.

The application forms are on sale at the Cash Office at the Accra campus of the University at Mataheko, Accra, or from the permanent campus at Miotso. near Dawhenya. A set of application forms, admission requirements and prepaid EMS envelopes cost Gh¢80.
Payments should be in Bankers Draft only, and payable to Central University College. Foreign students' application forms cost $80. Copies of the form can also
be downloaded from here

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF FORMS

The deadline for submission of application forms is 11th June, 2010. Forms should be submitted to the Admissions office, Miotso.
